چکیده

This paper investigates the transmission properties of a normally incident transverse magnetic (TM) wave through a single subwavelength metallic cross-slit (a vertical slit modified by a horizontal cut at the center of the slit). The results show that, as the horizontal cut length increases, the odd modes of the extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) of the slit exhibit an apparent red shift while the wavelengths of the even modes remain almost unchanged. If the horizontal cut length is large enough so that a red shifted odd mode degenerates with an even mode, the transmission is unexpectedly suppressed to nearly zero, at the same time an increased absorption (up to 85%) occurs. The behaviors of the excited surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) inside the cross-slit are analyzed in detail. It is found that the interference between the encountering even mode and odd mode leads to the suppressed transmission and enhanced

Electronically tunable extraordinary optical transmission in graphene plasmonic ribbons coupled to subwavelength metallic slit arrays

Subwavelength metallic slit arrays have been shown to exhibit extraordinary optical transmission, whereby tunnelling surface plasmonic waves constructively interfere to create large forward light propagation. The intricate balancing needed for this interference to occur allows for resonant transmission to be highly sensitive to changes in the environment. Here we demonstrate that extraordinary ...

Surface plasmon polariton resonance and transmission enhancement of light through subwavelength slit arrays in metallic films.

In this study, we present experimentally measured transmission enhancement of microwaves through periodic slit arrays in metallic films. Enhanced transmission peaks and sharp transmission dips are clearly observed around the theoretically expected surface plasmon polariton(SPP) resonance frequencies. Dependence of the transmittance spectra on the geometrical properties of slits is also demonstr...

Microcavity enhanced optical absorption in subwavelength slits.

We introduce a compact submicron structure consisting of multiple optical microcavities at both the entrance and exit sides of a subwavelength plasmonic slit filled with an absorbing material. We show that such microcavity structures at the entrance side of the slit can greatly enhance the coupling of the incident light into the slit, by improving the impedance matching between the incident pla...

Gratingless enhanced microwave transmission through a subwavelength aperture in a thick metal plate

Remarkably enhanced transmission of microwave radiation through a single subwavelength slit in a thick metallic substrate surrounded by just a pair of parallel deep and narrow grooves is recorded. By also patterning the output face of the metal slab with two grooves there is strong exit beam confinement. There are no gratings in this structure and, hence, the transmission mechanism is not relat...

Transmission properties of a single metallic slit: from the subwavelength regime to the geometrical-optics limit.

In this work we explore the transmission properties of a single slit in a metallic screen. We analyze the dependence of these properties on both slit width and angle of incident radiation. We study in detail the crossover between the subwavelength regime and the geometrical-optics limit. In the subwavelength regime, resonant transmission linked to the excitation of waveguide resonances is analy...
